SOLO SHOWS
Each of Katherine's one-woman shows presents collections of women bound under common themes - sometimes obvious and sometimes not. From the sublime to the ridiculous, she pulls out all of her performance guns to offer audiences dramatic insight and comic relief for her often biting social critiques.
for her own good: chronicles of women and madness (collection of vignettes)
Spanning over 150 years, For Her Own Good intertwines both well-known and anonymous first person historical accounts and fictional imaginings by and about insolent women locked inside cultural expectations and oftentimes in asylums against their will. Each vignette focuses on an era-specific gynecological ‘cure du jour’ that uncovers the misguided history of female sexuality and gendered madness. These long-forgotten voices (both brutal and funny) are brought back to life through distinct performance mediums.
escaping biology
Part autobiography and part social commentary, Escaping Biology is a post-vagina conversation inspired by the authors own quest for selfhood set against current discourses on feminism (or lack thereof). As told by six unique character creations filled with dreams, longings, and desires of their own, each confronts the eroding mythology of womanhood they had come to rely upon. Some dream to escape their biology while others desperately try to hold onto it. From designer vaginas to peri-menopausal incontinence, Escaping Biology sheds light on how women navigate their own sexual politics within the context of the greater cultural production of gender: female.
the story of a phallus woman
Phallus Woman is a vignette-driven multi-character show that explores the contradictory relationship between the phallus and the penis - cabaret style! What's a feminist to do? With an ever-present wink and nod to the audience, Phallus Woman confiscates and subverts traditional notions of sex and sexuality through shadow puppetry, bawdy monologues, highly charged physical theatre, and original musical vignettes.
ladies who go bump in the night
The first of her cabaret performance art works, Ladies is a provocatively entertaining show that shines the light on the female performer through ten immersive vignettes. Installed as a promenade performance, each new room location and costume change allows spectators to morph into a new type of audience to deliberately destabilize traditional notions of viewing.
